Raymond J. Macek, C.P.M.
Senior Associate, International Sourcing
Ray has more than 35 years’ experience in international procurement and contract management, much of it spent in overseas assignments working with and leading multi-national and multi-cultural teams. With the bulk of his career in the oil and gas industry, working for Exxon Mobil, he has lived and worked in the Middle East, East Asia, and Southeast Asia. He holds a B.S. in business administration from Elmhurst College, has been accepted as a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M) by the Institute for Supply Management, and has completed coursework toward an MBA at Dominican University. His focus at MAPP Associates includes international procurement, contract negotiation, vendor screening, and support to the energy industry.
Ray began his career as an intelligence analyst with the U.S. Army, with a secondary assignment as a linguist, specializing in the Hausa language spoken in much of Nigeria. After assignments in Ethiopia and Vietnam, he left the Army and went into business, ultimately joining Mobil Oil Corporation at its then-headquarters in Fairfax, VA.
Over the course of 28 years with Mobil (now Exxon Mobil), he has reorganized the purchasing function at various international locations; implemented quality and cost savings programs; managed all procurement for a $500M project in Indonesia; managed all procurement for 15 Asia-Pacific corporate affiliates; led three startup joint ventures in Asia (including two in China); served as contract administrator of a $2B offshore platform project; and, most recently, developed engineering procurement and construction contracts for oil projects in southern Iraq.
