Robert L. Smith
Senior Associate, International Program Management
Bob has managed large ($300M+) programs worldwide for twenty years, since retiring from the U.S. Army. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Bob was commissioned as an infantry officer and held various command and staff assignments, including duties in special operations, over the course of his military career. He holds an M.S. degree in Operations Research and Systems Analysis from the Air Force Institute of Technology, an MBA from the Embry Riddle Aeronautical Institute, and an M.S. in Program Management from the Keller Graduate School of Management. His focus at MAPP is international program management.
An expert in all facets of operations and program management, he has brought the leadership skills he developed as a career Army officer to the business world. He has held senior executive positons at several large companies, including Raytheon, L-3 Communications, DynCorp and AECOM Government Services, as well as at international smaller companies. He is particularly noted for his ability to manage complex, multi-national, teams working in austere environments.
Bob’s recent international experience includes a year’s residence in Liberia, where he was President and Managing Director of a construction and engineering services firm. In addition, he managed a $500M biological threat reduction program for the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency in Kazakhstan, a $948M worldwide environmental remediation program for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and numerous other programs for the U.S. Department of State (including AFRICAP), the U.S. Department of Energy, and other clients in the U.S. and abroad.
