Stephen J. Zolock, LTC USAF (ret.), PMP
Senior Associate, International Business Operations
Steve Zolock brings to MAPP Associates more than 22 years of international operations experience, much of it in the trans-Caucasus region and the Central Asian Republics. A retired Air Force officer with a background in special operations and later in disarmament, Steve did his undergraduate work in Asian studies at Florida State University and received an M.S. in international relations from Webster University. His focus at MAPP Associates is on international business operations, in-country logistics, host nation relations, and business development.
Trained initially as an Air Force pilot, Steve became Director of Intelligence for the 23rd Air Force and later served as Deputy Director of Intelligence (J-2) for the Joint Special Operations Command. He then held assignments with the U.S. On-Site Inspection Agency (now the Defense Threat Reduction Agency) in Russia. Over the course of his career, he became proficient in spoken and written Russian, and developed subject matter expertise in special operations, intelligence, Central Asian and Caucasus affairs, arms reduction, project management, and logistics. His continuing education includes certification as Project Management Professional (PMP).
Upon retirement from the Air Force, Steve joined Technology Management Company, where he spent more than 15 years in a variety of executive positions. He opened corporate offices in Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, and arranged for all staffing and other support from the local national economy. He managed an irrigation program in Kazakhstan, funded by the World Bank, and oversaw a variety of projects for the Department of Energy throughout Kazakhstan. Among his more challenging assignments, he successfully managed a construction contract in the remote western desert of Uzbekistan, where he worked with local national laborers to dismantle a chemical weapons facility and restore the site to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standards. Throughout his business career, Steve has become expert in both host nation relations at the governmental level and the use of local national sourcing for labor and material.
